Seems that quite a few game blogs are making predictions for 2008, so I thought I may as well throw my hat in the ring as well, so here’s how I think things may play out this year.
Games that will die in 2008:
-
Vangard
-
Tabula Rasa
-
Pirates of the Burning Sea
Games that will do surprisingly well:
-
Lord of the Rings Online
-
EVE Online
-
Some new, as yet unknown title
Sure things:
-
WoW will continue its success, however subscriptions will begin to wane later in the year, with a short burst of re-subscribes if a new expansion is released.
-
WAR will release in the Fall of ’08 to much fanboy fanfare and a lot of whinerboys wondering why the game was released with “so many” bugs (that’s how a release goes whinerboys)
-
Conan will try to blip the radar but mostly not. It will garner a lot of attention for its gratuitous “teen-boy sex-n-gore”™ which will either kill it or just earn sneers from others – who knows, that could catapult it to GTA style success, which is the audience they’re aiming for apparently.
Pirates will release first expansion and will have a slow Eve-esque growth.
War won’t release until 1st Quarter 2009.
Conan switched engines and is so far out now, it will fade away.
